Garlic-Soy Shrimp with Green Pepper Sauce

  • 1 cup Soy Sauce
  • 15 Garlic cloves
  • 1-2 T Black Pepper
  • 1.5 lb Shrimp (shell on)
  • 4 Serrano peppers
  • 3 T Fish Sauce
  • 1/2 T Brown Sugar
  • 1 small Lime, juice and zest


  1. Chop 9 garlic cloves
  2. In a large bowl, combine soy sauce, chopped garlic and black pepper
  3. Mix in shrimp and refrigerate at least 1 hour
  4. Remove seeds from 1-2 of the Serrano peppers for less heat (can add them back)
  5. Blend peppers, remaining garlic and 1/4 cup water
  6. Transfer to a bowl and stir in fish sauce, brown sugar and lime juice/zest
  7. Preheat a grill pan or cast-iron until very hot
  8. While heating, drain shrimp
  9. Cook shrimp (2 min then flip for another 2 min)
